It’s rainy and vile here.

Mercury went retrograde today.

Stay safe and have fun!

Sunny and cool

I couldn’t post last Thursday because of the nor’easter. We lost power around 1 AM. By mid-morning, we also lost cell service. Most places in the area, including the library, were shut.

It wasn’t too bad. We worked socializing the cats, wrapped up in layers, read books. One of the radios had batteries, so we could keep up with how bad it was outside.

Around 1:30 in the afternoon, the power came back on, but flickered until late afternoon.

Lots of branches came down. Not tree limbs, just branches. That’s taken some time to clean up.

I’ve taken the exterior Halloween decorations up and down too often to count at this point.

We have some more tomatoes growing; let’s hope they mature before they’re stolen again.

I have to cut back the roses and cut back what needs it in the beds over the weekend, weather permitting. We’ll start putting plants into the garage to overwinter, and the smaller plants (which are still pretty big, but do well indoors) inside and up in my room.

I have to oil the teak furniture one more time before we put it away.

Then, the garden goes to sleep for the winter.

And I immediately start fantasizing about what I want to do next year!

The decorations are up outside in the front of the house. Pictures are on my Instagram account, @devonellingtonwork. The exterior isn’t finished — I haven’t yet put up the lights. But it’s getting there. The interior decorations are up, too.

We’re getting a Nor’Easter, so that could make everything go cattywumpus.

It’s time to put the rest of the garden to bed. Having someone come in to mow has been such a blessing and a boon. This next set of tomatoes is doing well — we might actually get to EAT some of them.

As soon as we have the first frost, I will cut back the roses. The landlord wants them cut back far more than I do, but that’s the way it goes. As things die back, I’m sure I’ll find more invasives that need to be gotten rid of.

My lawn guy cleaned up the leaves. I’ll discuss with him whether we should do a big cleanup later in November, or how that usually works.

Meanwhile, I’ll trim things back and put leaves in the beds so they can rest over winter. Pretty soon, we’ll have to bring in the plants that can’t stay outside all winter, and oil and put away the furniture from the deck. I kind of like these rituals.

Thurs. Oct. 3, 2019: Slow Move into Autumn

Not much to report. Don’t even have the usual astrological information — except that Pluto turns direct today, thank goodness.

We’re coaxing along the rest of the tomatoes. We’re cutting back other plants. We’re making some decisions about other plants.

We have so many acorns! What a harvest. The squirrels and chipmunks are very happy.

I’m hoping for a quiet, productive weekend.

It’s been unseasonably warm here so far, but it’s cooling down. We’ve had a few days of wind and dreary drizzle. When it lets up, I’ll start the exterior decorating.

Autumn is my favorite season!
